In 1982, a new restaurant opened on Knox Street in Dallas. It quickly became known for its unique border-style Mexican food and fun, great tasting Margaritas. Today, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina is a leading full-service restaurant that offers an extensive menu of great-tasting, classic and contemporary Mexican food, like sizzling mesquite-grilled fajitas, and margaritas as big and bold as the border itself. After 30 years, On The Border still serves made-from-scratch sauces; meats are mesquite-grilled and cooked to order, and guacamole is made in small batches every four hours. On The Border is owned by On The Border Acquisition LLC, with 155 restaurants in 36 states, Puerto Rico, and four countries worldwide.
In June 1997, Pacific Meritage brought On The Border to northern California with the opening of a restaurant in Milpitas. On The Border opened another location in Elk Grove in September 1998, followed by Natomas (August 1999), Dublin (September 2000) and Roseville (May 2001). Pacific Meritage wanted to bring the fun energy, unique Tex-Mex flavors and party atmosphere of On The Border to North California residents. The restaurants actively give back to their local communities through sponsorships and fundraising in support of charities and community organizations.
